Woodpecker problem?

Posted by admin on June 16th, 2010 filed in Garden Bird Control

There’s a woodpecker that pecks on my roof every morning between 6:30 and 7:00 o’clock and wakes me up.I don’t want to kill the bird, that’s cruel, anybody knows a remedy without killing?

This time of year woodpeckers are looking for mates and they start pounding on things that make loud noises, such as houses. Every spring I get randy woodpeckers pounding on my house. I have friends who have a woodpecker that pounds on a metal grill high up on their house, at 5 in the morning!

It is possible you have insects in the wood of your house, and if so, food is the culprit. You might climb up on the roof and see if the woodpecker is eliminating an insect problem before you chase him away. Termites are much worse than a woodpecker.

If the woodpecker is drilling holes in the house, you could put some metal up there to protect the wood. If he’s looking for a girlfriend, he’ll keep pounding on the metal though….

One of those giant squirt guns is a good alternative.

Buy a decoy owl. No more woodpecker, no more any birds for that matter. Personally I’d shoot it then stab the prick in the eye with a shrimp cocktail fork.

try hanging those shiny plastic streamers from the eaves of you roof, or something that will flutter in the wind that will scare them away..

Portable boat horn. Blow it a couple of times out the window. Or buy a gun and shoot it out the window. Don’t think your neighbours would like either tho.

Listen to buddy above and get the fake owl. But don’t post him outside for too long because birds will eventually figure out it’s fake and keep on doing their thing.

I agree with MW…there may be a source of food on your roof. You may have an insect problem on your roof…termites and what not.

You may want to have pest control (the orkin man etc) come out and inspect your roof and house for insects.

The woodpecker may be doing you a favor.
