Woodpecker Problem?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 filed in Garden Bird Control

My family has a woodpecker that has been living in the columns of our house for about a month now. I heard that putting something shiny up would scare it away. Does that work, or do you have another suggestion?

If it keeps going to one spot over and over again, tack up a screen over the spot, if there are too many spots to do this try drawing it away with a suet feeder, I feed mine and they haven’t bothered anything on the house. Wind chimes will not work, have many hanging on the porch and doesn’t deter them at all.

don’t know how many if any dead or dying trees you have but that’s why he/she is there. their looking for bugs. get rid of the dying /dead stuff and he/she will leave.

Woodpeckers can be a real problem. For starters, you need to block access to wherever they are getting in. I’ve heard of using the foil. I’d suggest some wind chimes.

Beyond that, check for rotten wood and replace with something else as the bird has probably found an insect feast that is attracting it.
