Why is Portland Oregon nicknamed Stumptown?

I guess the women would be named Eileen.
And would the residents of Stumptown have problems with woodpeckers?

hahaha…….well…..when the land was cleared way back in the day..
they didn’t remove the tree stumps right away…..hence Stumptown…

Indeed it is the result of land clearing. It’s an old name for it though.
And yes the Melting Pot there was wonderful. (It’s underground too!)
