      yes it is. they only peck on rotted wood to get to the bugs inside. you had best get an exterminator to check that out.

      During mating season I’ve had woodpeckers tapping away at the house. At first I too was freaked out and looked for holes and bugs, but found neither. I now pound on the wall to scare them off the moment I hear them - they drive me mad!

      I’ve seen them tapping away at plastic lanterns, steel light posts and other non-buggy items, so if it happens just during a specific time of year, maybe it’s just a mating thing where they like to make noise. So double-check where they are pecking away to be sure, but it might not be a bug issue.
