What is the best way to pigeon-proof my balcony? they are dirty and wake me up every morning.?

Posted by admin on April 11th, 2010 filed in bird control products

They sit on my balcony and not only defecate everywhere, they make the loud courting noise that wakes me up every morning around 7am. Is there anything I can put out there that they are afraid of or hate the smell of? I wouldn’t want to install some "no-landing" spikes, netting or such as the apt is a temporary spot for me and those things could be pricey. Thank you for any advice.

There is a lot of information available on the internet. A Yahoo search for "pidgeon control" (include the quotation marks in the Yahoo search box) yields 403 results. If you do the same search, and are willing to spend a little time exploring, I’m sure that you will quickly find lots of useful and interesting information. One of the things you will find is information on sonic devices that are reported to deter pidgeons. I can’t vouch for their effectiveness, but the concept is interesting. In addition, there are hundreds of other methods you might want to consider.

Good luck with your pidgeon problem.

Do you like windchimes? You could hang some up and see if the sound of them scares away the pigeons. Also if you put wild bird seed away from your balcony they would definitely like that and might help. Good Luck.

Fox Tails work, my neighbour uses them to scare all the birds away.

you might have to kill one (poison one). I heard that if one dies somewhere, the rest will leave. I dont know if thats a myth or not but ive heard that several times. Its kind of mean though

Go get a dog or cat, tie it up on the balcony. They are afraid of them. Borrow one if only temporary resident.
