We are moving and I have a bird nest question.?
Posted by admin on August 6th, 2010 filed in Garden Bird ControlI have a pair of Carolina Wren Woodpeckers that have moved into a hanging basket on my patio. My problem is that I am moving in less than a month. The move is only to the next building over. She has laid her eggs already. If I move the hanging basket to that patio, will she be able to find it? Or should I leave it here til the babies are gone?

Is it worth taking the risk that the mother won’t find the nest for the sake of saving a basket? Leave the basket until the babies fly from the nest and then return to pick it up.

I’d leave it, and get a new hanging basket for my new place.

Leave it. If you touch it she may abandon the eggs. So if the new person moving in doesn’t mind, just leave it there.
