i have a woodpecker problem….?
Posted by admin on June 8th, 2010 filed in Garden Bird ControlNow every morning around 7am i get woken up by this woodpecker that i feel it pounding right next to my head. i have come to the point where im about to load up my BB gun and lay it next to my window and kill the damn thing. so killing is an option… but id rather not do that, and im on a Very low budget.
its pecking a tree right next to my house (about 4 feet away from my bedroom window)

That’s a tough situation, because I assume removing the tree isn’t an option either. Many medium-sized bird species, like some woodpeckers, can be deterred from hanging around certain areas of your property by installing a plastic great horned owl decoy in an obvious place. I’ve found them even at supermarket chains like Walmart, but Home Depot and Lowes would be your best bet. As far as the price is concerned, you’ll be looking at spending $14-25 for one. (Some even have heads that turn from side to side, as if surveying your property.)

From my experience, this is the best way to go. The other options, like buying owl recordings and playing them all night, are too costly and too much of a hastle.
