how can you get rid of woodpeckers?

Posted by admin on November 6th, 2010 filed in Garden Bird Control

its eating holes in my house. there are no insects in the wood siding so thats not the problem. It targets under a bay window where the wall is hollowed out perhaps to find a mate with the drumming noise. i tried the plastic owl only to find out after some research that they don’t ward off the stupid pecker. please help.
I’ve heard calling the DNR may be one option, the mirrors, metal sheeting, fake spiders that swoop down activated by noise, the hawk silhouette, balloons, tin foil, the tacky goopy stuff that tastes bad, im just not sure what works. please help my last resort is the bb gun and i would like to not have to resort to that.

I don’t know if this will work but maybe you can try it. There are various sorts of animal repellers you can use, issuing frequencies which humans can’t hear. Some I’ve seen are used to stop cats and dogs coming into your open yard at home - they’re repelled. Others are described as things like rodent repellers, which are described as being at frequencies which don’t disturb household pets. There are probably more than one kind of frequency / kind of thing emanating from whatever instrument which you can get - so you can ask around if these are likely to repel birds like woodpeckers.

How about going to your golden pages and telephoning a number of pet shops to see what they think would work from these suggestions or their own suggestions. They might be able to advise you what kind of smelling / sticking / beack acting substance would work if painted over your wood outside. These are off the top of my head, I hope they helps, but you’d need someone who has experience or knowledge of each trick to help. And on the other hand / in the meantime you could try just painting something you can think of that might be unpleasant to the bird, strong wood protector, that kind of thing, or something making a thin sticky film (I don’t know what)!!
