We live in a wooded area, and for some reason the local squirrels and large blackbirds seem to like to eat on our roof. I don’t think they’ve gotten into the attic, but every morning we hear them up there scrambling around and hear the birds pecking very hard against the roof (not woodpecker type pecking, just pounding, probably picking up seeds). I cleaned out the gutter a few weeks ago and found them full of peanut shells of all things. I guess the neighbors are feeding them peanuts. We have birdfeeders and a squirrel feeder, but we’ve stopped feeding the squirrels.

So, any suggestions for keeping them off the roof so they’ll eat their lunch in the trees where they belong? The roof pitch is too steep to put an owl figurine up there. I have an idea or two, but wonder if anyone else has solved this problem, and how.

And please don’t tell me to kill the little guys, ’cause we kinda like ‘em… just not on our roof. Drives the dogs nuts!

Thanks…

!!!READ DESCRIPTION!!! Watch in HIGH DEFINITION!! This is my newest creation “Flamboyant”. (I know its not flamboyant but i like the word and somehow its funny that its not flamboyant at all ) My current RCT3 project is stoped at the moment because of a lag on ideas on it So i decided to make a quick coaster in NL overall this coaster took me about 3 hours to make… It’s a Eurofighter type coaster with a track length of 1180m and overall height of 38m. It’s a fast coaster which is build on very limited space but would be perfectly ridable (at least the g-forces are ok )! Problems: I know that some trees are in the water I realised them while i was watching the finished movie so it would be kind of you to just ignore them or categorize them as swamp trees Nothing more to say… So have fun.

Many people dread spring time as many flocks of birds come to roost either on our land or close by. It is lovely to watch them fly about but they do leave so much mess behind when they finally leave that it kind of takes the enjoyment away from their beauty.

I’ve noticed over the spring months that there are some specific products that people are buying for their property that must work as there is a high volume of them being sold. It all depends on your property. The size of your land, if it’s a farm or a private home is what makes the difference between what products you will end up buying. In this article we are talking about your home and garden.

You could start off with one of the cheaper items which is the bird repellent ribbon. What this is is like a holographic strip that you cut to the desired length and hang them round your patio and throughout your garden. Now because of the different colours that these strips shine in the sun and the motion, it does scare the birds.
But if your a little more serious about scaring your birds away then your going to have to spend a little more but get much better results. Remember you pay for what you get!

You could go for the preditor bird scarer as these do have a great desired affect. Items like the prowler owl, rotating head great horned owl or the molded owl or even the garden defence electronic owl. These are fantastic for keeping your bird problem away as they will be in your garden for life and they are still affordable to the everyday person like you and me.

Just don’t forget that before you start prepairing for the spring visits from our friendly birds make sure there are no old nests anywhere on your property that were used the year before, as that is one of the reasons why these birds are coming back to your property. They are creatures of habit, they like to go back to what they know and feel safe at. Get rid of the nests and you will be that one step closer to no bird problem.

A Mexican woodpecker and a Canadian woodpecker were in Mexicoarguing about which place had the toughest trees. The Mexican woodpecker claimed Mexico had a tree that no woodpecker could peck.

The Canadianwoodpecker accepted his challenge and promptly pecked a hole in the tree with no problem. The Mexicanwoodpecker was amazed.

The Canadianwoodpecker then challenged the Mexican woodpecker to peck a tree inCanada that was absolutely ‘im-peckable’ (a term woodpeckers like to use). The Mexicanwoodpecker expressed confidence that he could do it and accepted the challenge.

The two flew to Canada where the Mexican woodpecker successfully pecked the so-ca lled ‘im-peckable’ tree almost without breaking a sweat.

Both woodpeckers were now terribly confused. How is it that the Canadian woodpecker was able to peck the Mexican tree, and the Mexican woodpecker was able to peck the Canadian tree, yet neither was able to peck the tree in their own country?

After much woodpecker pondering, they both came to the same conclusion: Apparently, your pecker gets harder when you’re away from home.

Woodpeckers have very long tounges perhaps 10 inches long, often with barbs at the ends for stabbing insects, they often use a glue for the toung to help pullin the insects and a glue sovent in the stomach to unglue the tasty treat and digest it.

Problem… some woddpeckers have tounges that stick out like us form the mouth, and the european woodpecker has a tounge that starts in the throat and wrapps around the back of the head, down the beak and out….

how did it micro evolve
1) created with the tounge wrapped around and micro evolved to have some woodpeckers today with ordingary tounges sticking out
2) naturalist evolution, tounges started as other birds and then went backwards wrapping around th ehead and down the beak and out… and how would a series of gradual changes explain this?

Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution I by Job Martin
the nature of the radicle change would be the tounge wrapping aound the back of the head down the beak and out, in the case of the european woodpecker… but not the case in many woodpeckers which have touges that stick straight out, not wrapping around the head
