common problems when a car wont start?

i have a 2001 ford mustang
just yesterday i park the car then a few minutes later i tried to turn it on and it wouldn’t start?

the lights and everything were ok, when i tried to turn the car their was a noise like a woodpecker that only hit once..

i was told it was the "GAS SENSOR" ?? what can i do to fix this it happend twice already

      Im not sure why this person called it a gas sensor but i think they are talking about the fuel shutoff switch- if this switch is faulty or is tripped by being hit it will keep it from starting but it wont keep it from turning over- sounds more like a starter solenoid or starter problem to me. idk if the starter solenoid is like on the older style ford- if it is you can easily try bypassing this solenoid. try tapping the starter with a hammer and then try to start it- its kind of a long shot but if it starts immediately after doing this you have a bad starter.

      it could be the battery terminals need cleaning or the solenoid is bad.
